Note:
Replacing the valve cover gasket of the Outlander HL engine should become a familiar procedure, especially if the car is actively used. Replacement is recommended in the following cases:
- when traces of oil appear on the outside along the connection line of the cover and the head of the block;
- during current or major repairs of the engine;
- if the head cover is removed for maintenance or timing repair.
This article shows you how to replace the valve cover gasket on a 6B31 engine. Replacing the sealing gaskets of the covers of the left and right heads of the engine block is carried out in the same way.
1. Remove the upper part of the intake manifold as described here (points 1-15).
2. Remove the oil dipstick.
3. Remove the ignition coils from the spark plug wells as described here .
4. Loosen the hose clamp of the crankcase exhaust hose from the cylinder head, squeezing the bent ears with pliers, slide the clamp along the hose and remove the hose from the fitting.
5. Remove the crankcase exhaust hose to the intake manifold from the purge valve fitting.
6. Turn out six bolts of fastening of a cover of a head of the block of cylinders, take bolts from openings and remove a cover (for clarity it is shown on the removed heads of the block of cylinders).
7. Take out a lining from grooves on a cover of the block of cylinders.
8. Unscrew and remove the crankcase purge valve.
9. Clean the groove of the cover and the mating surface of the cylinder head from oil residues.
10. Install a new cylinder head cover gasket and all removed parts on the Outlander HL engine in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the cylinder head cover bolts to a nominal torque of 8.3 ± 1 Nm.
