Tool:

  • Jack
    Chocks
  • Funnel
  • transparent hose
  • transparent vessel
  • syringe

Consumables:

  • Brake fluid

Warning:
According to the manufacturer's recommendation, the Skoda Octavia brake fluid should be replaced after 30 thousand kilometers or 2 years of operation (whichever comes first).
Note:
Skoda Octavia brake fluid must be replaced with an assistant . It is convenient to work by installing the car on a viewing ditch or overpass (no need to remove the wheels).

1.  Brake the Skoda Octavia car with a parking brake and install wheel chocks (“boots”) under the wheels.

2.  If the work is not carried out on a viewing ditch or overpass, jack up all four wheels in turn and place the vehicle on supports. You can also do the job by successively lifting and removing the next wheel with a jack.

The sequence of fluid replacement in the brake mechanisms:
1. Right rear.
2. Left front.
3. Left rear.
4. Right front.

3. Turn away a stopper of a reservoir of the main brake cylinder.

4. Pump out the old brake fluid from the reservoir of the main brake cylinder with a medical syringe.

5.  Add new brake fluid up to the lower edge of the filler neck.

6. Clean the protective caps of the brake air release valves from dirt.

7.  Remove caps.

8. Attach the hose to the right rear wheel brake bleed valve and immerse the end of the hose in a clean, clear container.

9. The assistant must sharply press the brake pedal four to five times (with an interval between pressing 1-2 s), then keep the pedal depressed.

10. Loosen the air release valve 1/2-3/4 turn. Old (dirty) brake fluid will begin to flow out of the hose. The brake pedal at this time should smoothly reach the stop. As soon as the fluid stops flowing, close the air release valve.

Note:
Keep an eye on the level of Skoda brake fluid in the reservoir, preventing it from dropping to the “MIN” mark on the reservoir wall. Top up with new brake fluid as needed to prevent air from entering the hydraulic drive. Thus, the gradual displacement of the old liquid by the new one is ensured without draining the hydraulic system.

11.  Repeat steps 8-10 until the fluid in the drive is completely replaced (clean fluid without air bubbles should flow from the hose).

12.  In the same way, replace the brake fluid in the working cylinder of the brake mechanism of the left front wheel.

13. Then change the brake fluid in the second circuit (first in the working cylinder of the brake mechanism of the left rear wheel, then the right front).

14.  Check the quality of the work done: press the brake pedal several times - the pedal stroke and the force on it should be the same each time you press it. If not, return to steps 8-10.

15. Add Skoda Octavia brake fluid to the level of the “MAX” mark on the wall of the clutch hydraulic reservoir. Close the tank with a lid.

16.   After changing the brake fluid, be sure to put on protective caps on the air release valves.
