- Oil filter (26300-35502)
- Engine oil (type SAE 5W-20)
Note:
The oil change is shown on the second generation Hyundai Santa Fe (2006-2012) equipped with a Theta II - inline, four-cylinder. On engines of other models, this work is performed in the same way. The only difference is in the locations of the oil filler neck and the oil level indicator (dipstick) in the engine compartment.
On a Hyundai Santa Fe car, an oil change is performed on a pit or overpass, but in this article we will show you an oil change without a pit, but with a jack.
Drain the oil after driving while the engine is still hot. If the engine is cold, start up and warm it up to operating temperature.
The oil must be filled with the same grade as the oil that was in the engine. If you decide to change the brand of oil, flush the engine lubrication system with flushing oil or oil of the brand you want to fill. To do this, after draining the old oil, fill in the new one up to the lower mark of the low-gauge dipstick. Start the engine and let it idle for ten minutes. Drain the oil and only then replace the oil filter and refill with new oil.
Changing engine oil and oil filter Hyundai Santa Fe
1. Engage the 1st gear (put the automatic transmission selector in the "P" position) and install the chocks "shoes" under the rear wheels.
2. Jack up the passenger side of the front of the vehicle and place the vehicle on the vehicle support.
3. Clean the drain plug on the oil sump.
4. Place an empty container under the drain plug of the engine crankcase.
5. Unscrew the drain hole and drain the oil into a container (drain the oil for 15-20 minutes).
Warning:
Be careful, the oil is hot. Wear gloves to avoid scalding your hands.
Note:
The drain plug is sealed with a copper washer. If the washer is strongly compressed, then be sure to replace the washer with a new one.

6. Unscrew the engine oil filler plug to drain the oil faster.
7. Unscrew the oil filter counterclockwise and remove the Santa Fe oil filter.
Note:
If it was not possible to unscrew the filter by hand, then unscrew it with a special remover.

8. Lubricate the filter O-ring with engine oil, screw the filter back into place by hand and turn it 3/4 turn from the moment the ring and the flange of the cylinder block come into contact.
9. Install the engine oil drain plug.
10. Insert a funnel into the engine oil filler neck.
11. Fill the engine oil into the engine (approximately 3.7 - 4 liters), checking its level on the dipstick, described in detail in this article .
Note:
Remove the dipstick, wipe it off with a clean cloth and reinsert as far as it will go. Remove the dipstick again and look at the Santa Fe oil level . The oil level should be between marks F (MAX) and L (MIN) .
Checking the oil level.
On a Hyundai Santa Fe car, the volume of oil is approximately 4.5 liters. For diesel engine 2.2 l. the oil volume is approximately 5.9 liters.
12. When the oil level is correct, screw on the filler cap and remove any oil drips.
Note:
Start the engine and let it idle for a couple of minutes (the oil alarm should go out 2-3 seconds after starting the engine). While the engine is running, check for leaks of oil from under the oil filter and oil drain plug, add oil if necessary, tighten the drain plug and filter.
