Parts and consumables:

  • Brake fluid (DOT-4 type)
  • rags

Notes:

Maintaining the correct level of brake fluid is necessary for the correct operation of the vehicle's braking system. It is essential to check the brake fluid level regularly, especially if you notice even a slight decrease in the efficiency of the brake system.
We recommend checking the brake fluid level before each ride and topping up the reservoir if necessary.

The reservoir is located on the master brake cylinder closer to the left side of the car.

Warning:

Take precautions when handling brake fluid: it is toxic.

1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine. And  open the hood .

2.  Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. It should be between the " MIN " and " MAX " marks on the tank body.

Notes:

The level usually drops as the brake pads wear out, but it should never drop below the MIN mark on the expansion tank. If the TJ level has fallen below the minimum level mark, then it is necessary to check the wear of the brake discs and drums, and also make sure that there are no leaks.

3.  To add fluid to the reservoir, turn and remove the reservoir cap. The brake fluid reservoir cap turns counterclockwise.

Notes:

Before opening the tank to check the liquid level, wipe the lid and the top of the tank.

4.  Add DOT-4 fluid to the reservoir up to the “ MAX ” mark, close the lid and lower the hood.

Notes:

You can use a clean watering can so as not to spill the liquid. In this case, after use, the watering can must be washed with a cleaning agent, as the liquid is very caustic.

Warning:

Contact with brake fluid on wires, plastic or painted parts of the body can cause damage. Therefore, always place clean rags when pouring. If liquid comes into contact with these parts, wipe them off immediately with a clean cloth. If liquid gets on your hands, they should be washed. Brake fluid is very corrosive, so it is best to remove it from the skin as soon as possible.

Helpful Hints:

If the level of the working fluid in the tank is constantly decreasing, then there is most likely a leak in the system. In this case, it is necessary to check the tightness of the hydraulic drives of the brake system and eliminate the malfunction. If there are no leaks, it most likely indicates the need to replace the brake pads. Untimely replacement of pads leads to costly repairs (replacement of brake discs, drums, calipers).
