Checking wheels and tires for Hyundai Creta

1.  Assess the general condition of the wheels. They should not have dents, cracks or corrosion.

Check tire pressure as described in this article.  Too little or too much air pressure in a tire causes rapid and uneven wear of the tread, which impairs vehicle handling.

The air pressure standards for tires of standard size are indicated on a plate pasted on the middle pillar in the driver's door opening. 

2.  Check the wheel nuts of the Hyundai Crete: vigorously press the sidewall of the wheel with your foot, swinging it in the transverse direction. If the wheel is loose, check the tightness of the wheel nuts. The tightening torque should be  108-127 N•m.

3. Visually check the condition of the disks. They should not show signs of deformation or cracks. If the discs are not in good condition, this can lead to problems later on. 

4.  Check the condition of the tires on the Hyundai Creta. Tires must not have any cuts, tears, delaminations, bulges or protruding cords.

5. If there are no mechanical damages on the tires, their suitability for use is determined by the height of the tread pattern according to the indicator protrusions in the grooves of the pattern. The protrusions are  1.6 mm high. When the tread height is equal to the height of the ledge, the tire on the Hyundai Creta will need to be replaced with a new one.

The indicators are located around the entire circumference of the tire at a short distance from each other. They can be found by the TWI symbols   or ▲ arrows on the sidewall of the tire.

The exact tread depth is determined by using a caliper depth gauge and comparing tire wear at the edges and in the middle.

Accelerated wear of the middle part of the tread indicates the use of a tire with increased pressure. Along the edges of the tire - with reduced.

Rapid wear on the outside or inside of the tread indicates the need for wheel alignment.

Intensive wear of one of the wheels can be caused by deformation of the suspension elements or the car body.

6.  Abnormal widening of grooves or gaps between tread blocks usually means tires are aging. Also, small cracks on the sidewall of the tire or on the tread indicate the aging of rubber.

In this case, the tire on the Hyundai Creta needs to be replaced.

7.  The appearance of vibration felt on the steering wheel or body when the car is moving at a constant speed over  80 km / h,  may be due to an imbalance of one of the wheels. To identify the cause, you need to check the wheel balance in a tire shop. If the vibration is determined to be caused by disc warping, tire damage, or uneven wear, replace the tire or disc with a new one.
