Notes:
Toyota RAV 4 power steering is part of the steering mechanism to make it easier to turn the steering wheel and set the trajectory. If you have difficulty turning the steering wheel, or howling when you turn it, first of all, you should check the fluid level in the power steering reservoir.
1 . Install the car on a flat horizontal surface . Open the hood and lock it in the raised position. The power steering reservoir is located in the engine compartment on the right in the direction of travel of the vehicle.
2. MAX and MIN marks are applied to the tank body . On a warm engine and when the power steering fluid is warm, the level should be between the MAX and MIN marks of the HOT range on the reservoir. On a cold engine and when the power steering fluid is cold, the level should be between the MAX and MIN marks of the "COLD" range on the reservoir.
3. Wipe the Toyota RAV 4 reservoir cap and the area around it with a clean rag to avoid dirt entering the power steering hydraulic circuit.
4. To add fluid to the Toyota RAV 4 power steering reservoir, turn it counterclockwise and remove the cap from the reservoir. Place the lid on a clean cloth to protect it from dirt.
5. Add power steering fluid Toyota RAV 4 to the reservoir to the MAX level.
Note:
To avoid foaming, do not shake the container with liquid before use, try to pour the liquid slowly, minimizing the likelihood of bubbles.
The Toyota RAV 4 fluid level must be kept within acceptable limits and not pour too much of it into the tank. Because power steering fluid expands during engine operation, pressure buildup can lead to problems and costly repairs.
6. Close the power steering reservoir cap tightly by turning it clockwise. Wipe up spilled liquid with a clean rag.
Note:
Be sure to use the correct power steering fluid for your vehicle, as each power steering fluid requires a different viscosity (density) to properly power the steering system.
The manufacturer does not recommend using gear oil instead of steering fluid. There is a wide variety of fluid types to choose from and choosing the wrong kind can result in steering failure and failure of steering seals.
If frequent topping up of oil is required, check the condition of all power steering hoses, their connections, pump and steering gear for leaks.
