Notes:

Checking the coolant level in the expansion tank of the cooling system should be carried out at each inspection of the car before driving and always in case of engine overheating and the associated release of fluid from the system. Its sharp decrease or increase should be a signal for an immediate check of the engine cooling system.

Although the coolant level sensor is built into the expansion tank, we recommend that you periodically check the coolant level visually. Its sharp decrease or increase should be a signal for an immediate check of the engine cooling system.

The manufacturer  recommends the use of antifreeze Skoda Octavia Tour  based on ethylene glycol standard the G12 (red), as evidenced by the «G12» inscription on the body of the expansion tank. The manufacturer also recommends Genuine G12 Plus  Coolant, a bright purple color that can be mixed with Red G12 Coolant.

Do not mix liquids of different colors and different manufacturers. If you do not know the brand of the filled fluid, and the fluid needs to be topped up, then the antifreeze in the cooling system needs to be replaced. Only use products from trusted manufacturers. Remember that the use of poor quality coolant leads to costly engine repairs.

The coolant is toxic, so be careful when handling it.

Check the coolant level of the Skoda Octavia Tour  only on a cold engine.

The volume (capacity) of the Octavia Tour engine cooling system is 6-7 liters for all types of engines.

Coolant (coolant concentrate) is used in two types:

  • G11 - blue-green liquid, diluted with distilled water in the following ratios: 2/3 -25°C, 1/1 -35°C, 2/3 -40°C; requires replacement every 2 years;
  • G12 (G12+, G12++) - red liquid, diluted with distilled water in the following ratios: 2/3 -25°С, 1/1 -35°С, 2/3 -40°С; does not require replacement.

Do not mix liquids G11 and group G12. Mixing liquids of group G12 (G12, G12+, G12++) is allowed.

As a rule, in our latitudes, mixing of the coolant (coolant concentrate) with distilled water is done 1:1. Thus, for a complete replacement of the coolant, it is necessary to purchase 4 liters for all types of engines.

1.  Park the vehicle on level ground, allow the engine to cool, and  open the hood.   The coolant expansion tank is located in the right rear of the engine compartment next to the fender.

2.  Visually check up level of a cooling liquid  in a tank. It should be between the  MAX  (maximum) and  MIN  (minimum) marks on the Skoda Octavia Tour expansion tank.

3. If the fluid level is at or below the MIN mark, add coolant.

4.  To top up the coolant, unscrew the cap of the Skoda Octavia Tour tank counterclockwise and remove it.

5.  Add the required amount of liquid, slightly not bringing the level to the MAX mark.

Warning:

Do not fill the fluid reservoir  above the MAX mark, as the volume of fluid increases when the engine is running. When starting the engine, the expansion tank cap must be closed.

Coolant that has fallen on engine parts or paintwork must be removed with a rag.

6.  Tightly close the cap of the coolant expansion tank (coolant may leak from under the loose cap). Remove spilled liquid with a rag.

Notes:

When topping up is necessary, use only coolant grades that are approved by the manufacturer's technical departments and provide freeze protection and anti-corrosion protection of the engine cooling system.

If the newly filled Skoda Octavia Tour coolant suddenly suddenly turned brown quickly, it means that you were sold a fake, in which they “forgot” to add corrosion inhibitors. Replace the Skoda Octavia Tour fluid as soon as possible before it has had time to corrode the cooling system.

If the coolant level in the expansion tank is constantly decreasing, then the engine cooling system is most likely leaking, so it is very important to immediately check its tightness and repair the malfunction.
