The gear oil filled into the gearbox (see "Appendices") is designed for the entire life of the vehicle, and there are no oil changes in the maintenance schedule. At the same time, the oil level in the gearbox should be checked at each service and, without fail, if an oil leak is detected from the gearbox. The vehicle must be on level ground when checking.
We check the oil level through the control (filler) hole, on a cooled gearbox. The control hole is located on the front wall of the gearbox housing and is closed with a threaded plastic plug. Access to the control hole is possible from above from the engine compartment.

The location of the check hole plug of the gearbox (the block of the oxygen concentration sensor wiring harness is removed from the holder for clarity)
Clean the gearbox crankcase around the check hole with a rag.

We unscrew the plug of the control hole counterclockwise (for clarity, it is shown from the bottom of the car with the protection of the power unit removed).
The oil level in the gearbox should be at the level of the lower edge of the hole, which can be checked with a finger. If necessary, adding oil to the gearbox can be done from above (from the engine compartment) using a funnel and a hose inserted into the control hole, or from below the car - with a syringe for filling transmission oil. Add oil of the same brand that was poured into the gearbox.
When adding oil from the bottom of the car, remove the protection of the power unit (see "Removing the protection of the power unit").

Add oil to the gearbox to the lower edge of the hole (oil will begin to flow out of the hole).
When the excess oil flows out, remove the oil drips with a rag and wrap the cork.
If it is necessary to drain the oil from the gearbox, for example, when replacing the right wheel drive oil seal, clean the gearbox housing around the drain hole.
We substitute a container with a volume of at least 3.5 liters under the drain hole.

We unscrew the drain plug with a “8” square ...
... and drain the oil into a container.
You can use a “9” square turned on emery, used for the stopper of the oil pan of the UZAM-3317 engine of the Moskvich-2141 car.
A copper washer is installed under the plug for sealing.
At the end of the drain, wrap the drain plug. After completing the repair work, pour oil into the gearbox through the control hole and wrap the plug.
