Notes:
Fuel in the fuel supply system is under high pressure, therefore, do not loosen the fuel line connections while the engine is running or immediately after it has stopped. To carry out work on the repair of the power supply system on a just stopped engine, it is necessary to first reduce the fuel pressure in the power supply system. 5-6 hours after stopping the engine, the fuel pressure in the fuel system will drop to almost zero.
This article shows you how to relieve the fuel pressure in the Outlander XL engine.
Decrease in pressure in the power supply system of the Mitsubishi Outlander XL
1. Place the transmission lever in neutral (the shift lever of an automatic transmission or continuously variable variator in the "P" - parking position) and brake the vehicle with the parking brake.

2. Switch off the ignition and open the hood .

3. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the storage battery.

4. The Outlander XL fuse box is located on the left side of the engine compartment, near the front suspension strut. Press down on the fuse box cover latch and remove the cover.

5. Remove the fuel pump fuse (blue, # 23) from the mounting block. The first photo below shows where the fuel pump fuse is located.

6. Connect a wire to the negative terminal of the storage battery. Start the engine and let it run until the fuel rail is completely depleted. The engine will then stall.
7. Turn on the starter for 2-3 seconds to finally release the fuel pressure.
8. Turn off the ignition. The fuel lines can now be disconnected.
