Tools:
- Socket head 10 mm
- Tester
Parts and consumables:
- Crankshaft position sensor
- Cloth gloves
Note:
If a malfunction occurs in the crankshaft position sensor circuit, the engine stops working, the ECU enters the malfunction code into the memory and turns on the indicator in the instrument cluster. In this case, check if the sensor is working properly.
The engine crankshaft position sensor is installed opposite the master disc located on the crankshaft.
Removing and installing the Mitsubishi Outlander crankshaft position sensor
1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the storage battery.
2. Remove the engine crankcase protection.
3. Press the latch and disconnect the crankshaft position sensor harness connector.
4. Use a 10 mm head to unscrew the sensor mounting bolt.
5. Remove the sensor.
6. Measure the resistance between the sensor leads with a tester. The resistance between any pair of leads must not be zero (winding short) or infinity (winding open). If the resistance does not meet the specified requirements, replace the Mitsubishi Outlander CKP sensor with a new one.
Note:
A rubber sealing ring is installed between the crankshaft position sensor and the cylinder head. Do not lose the ring when removing the sensor, replace if cracks and signs of aging appear on it.
7. Install the engine crankshaft position sensor in the reverse order of removal.
