The traction control system automatically helps prevent front wheel slip when starting off and accelerating the vehicle on slippery road surfaces. If the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, the system turns on automatically.
On slippery roads, under some conditions, full front wheel traction and full drive power to the wheels are not provided even with the traction control system engaged. Do not continue driving at any speed or under maneuvering conditions that could cause loss of traction. In situations where the road surface is covered with ice or snow, the vehicle must be equipped with snow tires or snow chains. Choose your driving speed according to road conditions.
NORMAL DRIVING MODE
Leave the system on during normal driving so that it activates when needed. When starting the engine, or immediately after the vehicle starts moving, you may hear a sound in the engine compartment for a few seconds. This means that the traction control system self-test mode is enabled and does not indicate a malfunction. When the traction control system is operating, the following situations may occur:
Rice. 1. Control lamp for turning on the traction control system
– the system regulates the rotation of the front wheels.
At this time, the slip control lamp flashes (Fig. 1);
– You may feel a vibration or hear a noise when the brakes are applied. This means that the system is functioning normally. The slip indicator light comes on for a few seconds when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position.
DRIVING WITH TRACTION MANAGEMENT OFF
To get out of mud, fresh snow, etc., turn off the traction control system. This system regulates the operation of the engine, therefore preventing the release of the front wheels.
Rice. 2. TRC OFF Switch Locations
To turn off the system: press the "TRC OFF" switch (fig. 2).
The "TRC OFF" indicator lamp will turn on. The vehicle stability control system is always on, even when the traction control system is turned off.
Press the "TRC OFF" switch again to turn it on. The "TRC OFF" indicator lamp will turn off. The "TRC OFF" indicator light will turn on for a few seconds when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position. The lamp will turn on again when the "TRC OFF" switch is pressed to turn off the system.
If any of the following situations occur, contact your Toyota dealer:
– the indicator lamp does not light up when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position;
– the indicator lamp continues to burn after inclusion of ignition;
– the indicator lamp turns on at a normal driving mode.
