Removing the Audi A4 security control unit

Removing the security control unit.

1 . To remove the airbag unit, read and follow the safety instructions for handling the airbag.

2 . Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

3 . Isolate the battery terminals.

4 . Unlock the steering column adjustment mechanism.

5 . Extend the steering wheel ( 2 ) as far as possible and pull it up. Install vertically, refer to illustration Driver airbag .

6 . Remove one of the two Torx T30 screws ( 1 ).

7 . Turn the steering wheel half a turn back and remove the second Torx screw ( 1 ).

8 . Disconnect the airbag unit connector ( 4 ).

9 . Disconnect the horn connector ( 6 ).

10 . Lay down the airbag unit ( 5 ) with the impact side of the airbag facing up.

11 . To remove the airbag unit, dock connectors ( 4 ) and ( 6 ) and fix them with locking clips (a distinct click should be heard).

12 . Make sure that no cable is attached to the gas generator and that the cable is not pinched.

13 . Fold the airbag cable on the left into a loop.

14 . Loop the horn cable.

15 . Tighten the screws ( 1 ) to 7Nm, refer to illustration Driver airbag .

16 . Turn on the ignition.

17 . Connect the negative battery cable.

Warning:

When connecting the battery, people must not be inside the car.
