Note:
This article describes how to replace spark plugs on Hyundai , with 1.4 liter and 1.6 liter engines.
Replacing candles only for the 1.4 liter engine.
1. Open the hood, unscrew the three engine cover bolts, and remove the cover.
2. For convenience, unscrew and set aside the cable protection.
3. Pull up and remove the spark plug tips.
4. Insert a spark plug wrench (or a 16mm socket with a rubber grommet that allows you to hold the spark plug) into the hole where the spark plug was, unscrew the spark plugs, and remove them from the spark plug wells.
5. Check spark plug wells for oil. If there is oil, then you should check the gasket of the cylinder head cover, and the gasket of the candle wells.
There is no oil in the well.
There is oil in the spark plug well.
6. Check and make sure that the electrode ( B ) and the spark plug insulator ( A ) are not damaged. Replace spark plug if damaged.
7. Check the gap between the electrodes of the spark plug with a round probe.
Note:
Standard value: 1.0 - 1.1 mm.
8. If the gap differs from the nominal value, adjust it by bending the side electrode.
WARNING:
Adjust the gap only by bending the side electrode. Any bending of the center electrode will break the spark plug insulator.
Replacing candles only for the 1.6 liter engine.
1. Open the hood, unscrew the four engine cover bolts, and remove the cover.
2. For convenience, unscrew and set aside the cable protection.
3. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the ignition coil. To do this, use a flathead screwdriver to pull back the locking tab ( 1 ), and press the latch ( 2 ) to disengage the block.
4. Turn out bolts of fastening of coils of ignition.
5. Remove the ignition coil from the spark plug well.
6. Insert a spark plug wrench (or a 16mm socket with a rubber grommet that allows you to hold the spark plug) into the hole where the ignition coil was, unscrew the spark plugs, and remove them from the spark plug wells.
A special head with a rubber bushing, for removing the candle.
7. Check spark plug wells for oil. If there is oil, then you should check the gasket of the cylinder head cover, and the gasket of the candle wells.
No oil in spark plug well.
There is oil in the spark plug well.
8. Check and make sure that the electrode ( B ) and the spark plug insulator ( A ) are not damaged. Replace spark plug if damaged.
9. Check the gap between the electrodes of the spark plug with a round probe.
