Opening the hood of Skoda Octavia I Tour 1996 - 2010

1.  Grasp the handle and open the front door on the driver's side.

2.  Inside the car, under the dashboard, on the left side, there is a hood lock drive handle.

3.  To gain access to the engine compartment, pull the hood lock drive handle towards you until a characteristic click is heard, which indicates that the hood has opened. The hood of the Skoda Octavia Tour will rise slightly.

Note:

The absence of a click when pressing the handle usually indicates that the cable for the hood latch has broken.

Very often,  car owners put the Skoda Octavia Tour electronic hood lock on the doors and hood, which can only be opened using the alarm control key fob. With its prolonged use, it is usually impossible to open the doors mechanically. Therefore, be sure to scroll through the regular lock cylinders with a key from time to time.

4.  In front of the car, under the hood of the Skoda Octavia Tour, there is a safety hook for the hood lock.

5.  Slightly raise the hood and press the safety hook rod to the left through the gap formed. Then lift the hood.

Warning:

Do not lift the hood of the Skoda Octavia Tour by the hood lock safety hook, as it may break.

Before opening the engine hood, make sure that the wiper blades are not pulled away from the windshield, otherwise the car's paintwork may be damaged. 

6.  Under the hood cover, on the radiator frame, a stop is fixed in a special holder.

7.  Remove the Skoda Octavia Tour hood stop from the holder and install it in a special hole on the hood cover, thereby fixing the hood in the raised position.

8.  When closing the hood, check the reliability of the lock operation: at the moment of locking, a characteristic click should be heard. In order to avoid dents on the surface of the hood, close the hood by slamming, lowering it from a height of 15-20 cm from the upper edge of the bulkhead. 

Warning:

Never open the engine hood if you see steam or coolant coming out from under it. To avoid the risk of burns, wait until steam or liquid stops escaping from under the hood.

If you find that the hood  is open while driving, stop immediately and close it.

Note:

After installing the support leg, make sure that the leg is securely installed in the appropriate hole in the hood and there is no possibility of it unexpectedly falling. If you doubt the reliability of the standard stop or it is simply missing, then pick up a strong bar of suitable length and install it between the body and the hood cover.

When closing the hood, make sure you remove the support leg and secure it securely in the appropriate fixture: closing the hood with the leg not folded can damage the hood.
