Note:

The main symptoms of a dirty throttle body are:

  • floating idle;
  • Difficulty starting the engine;
  • Jerks of the car when driving at minimum speeds.

The following describes how to remove and clean the throttle assembly on the Hyundai ix35.

1. Using pliers, squeeze and slide the clamp over the hose, and remove the hoses from the air filter.

2.  Loosen the clamp that secures the air supply hose to the branch pipe of the air filter housing.

3.  Loosen the clamp securing the air supply hose to the throttle assembly, and remove the air supply hose to the throttle assembly.

4.  Release the four latches on the air filter cover.

5. Remove the air filter cover together with the receiver and air supply sleeve.

6.  Press the two clamps of the wiring harness block, and remove the block of wires from the engine idle speed sensor.

7.  Squeeze with pliers the ends of the hose clamp, coolant outlet and inlet from the throttle assembly, slide the clamp along the hose, and remove the hoses from the fittings.

WARNING:

To avoid leakage of coolant, plug the hoses with a suitable plug, or pinch the hoses, for example, with "dogs".

8.  With a “10” wrench, unscrew the four bolts securing the throttle assembly, and remove the throttle.

9. Inspect the throttle body, if there is dirt on it, it needs to be cleaned.

10. For cleaning, we need a carburetor cleaner.

Note:

Before use, read the instructions for the cleaner.

11.  Open the shutter, and fix it with a key, or in any other way. Apply cleaner and wipe with a clean cloth.

WARNING:

It is advisable to avoid getting the product on the plastic part of the throttle assembly and the electrical connector.

12.  Wipe heavy dirt with a rag and re-spray, and check the results of cleaning the throttle assembly.

13. Dry the throttle assembly, and install the throttle valve on the Hyundai ix35 in the reverse order of removal.

14.  Add coolant if necessary.
