Tool:
- Fiat Belt Tension Tool 1895762000
- Phillips screwdriver
- ratchet
- Jack
- wheel chock
- Hexagon set
- Set of heads
- A set of keys
Note: Accessory drive belt tension adjustment is only required on vehicles without automatic tension adjustment.
However, an inspection of the condition of the accessory drive belt should be performed on all models.
The generator and power steering pump are driven by separate belts. In addition, if the car is equipped with air conditioning, then its drive is also performed by a separate belt.
Important: you can do without the specified device. However, the belt tension will not be accurate enough. In the absence of a device, press on the belt to be checked with your thumb on the segment between the pulleys and measure the amount of belt deflection. When the belt is correctly tensioned, its deflection should not exceed 5.0 mm.
Description:
1. Shut off the car and place stops under the wheels.
2. Open the hood and disconnect the battery power terminals.
3. Locate the drive belts.
There are three types of drive belts:
- Wedge (type A)
- Toothed (type B and C)
- Poly-wedge (river) with 3-7 longitudinal ribs on the working surface
4. Check the belts along their entire length with your fingers for cracks, damage or deformation.
Note: Inspect the straps from both sides, turning them over alternately.
Important: Defective belts must be replaced.
5. Check the condition of the ribs on the underside of the belts. They must have the same depth in the absence of signs of defects.
6. Measure the tension of the accessory drive belts using Fiat tool 1895762000 and compare the tension with the nominal value given in the vehicle documentation.
7. If, when measuring the tension of the alternator belt, it does not correspond to the nominal value, loosen bolt 1 with a socket head by 20 mm and turn the tensioner through a special hexagonal hole. After that, tighten bolt 1 and check the alternator belt tension again.
8. Adjust the tension of the power steering pump drive belt using the adjusting bolt 2 by loosening its nut.
9. Jack up the front of the car.
10. Remove the right front wheel and 1 wheel arch liner to provide access to the drive belt.
11. Install the socket on the central bolt (you will need a 13 mm hex in the holder for this) 1 mounting the accessory drive belt pulley on the crankshaft and rotate the shaft while inspecting the belt.
12. Inspect the belt and make sure that it is not worn and has no breaks, transverse cracks, broken ribs, deposits between the ribs of the belt, rolling of the belt base rubber.
Important: in the presence of the above damage, the ribbed belt must be replaced.
