Adjustment of a drive of a parking brake of Renault Duster

1. We hang out the rear wheels and securely fix the car on the factory-made stands.

2. Remove the lining of the field tunnel lining (see Removing the lining of the floor tunnel).

3. Raise the Renault Duster parking brake lever.

4. Remove the plug of the lever lining that covers the parking brake actuator adjusting nut (for clarity, shown with the floor tunnel lining removed).

5. To adjust the position of the brake pads, press the brake pedal several times.

6. Hold it pressed and then repeatedly raise and lower the Renault Duster parking brake handbrake (when moving the lever, keep the parking brake off button on the lever pressed all the time so that the ratchet mechanism does not work). At the same time, clicks will be heard in the brake mechanisms of the rear wheels from the operation of the mechanism for automatically adjusting the gaps between the pads and the brake drums.

7. If no clicks are heard when the parking brake lever is moved, then we increase the tension of the cables by tightening the nut on the threaded tip of the front cable (see below).

8. Raise and lower the parking brake lever until the clicks in the brake mechanisms stop.

9. After that, we check the stroke of the lever, which should be 7–8 clicks (teeth along the sector of the ratchet device of the lever).

10. If the number of clicks does not match the specified.

11. Turn the nut on the threaded tip of the front cable with a wrench or a “10” high head, increasing or decreasing its tension, adjust the stroke of the parking brake lever (for clarity, shown with the floor tunnel lining removed).

Note:

When the lever is fully lowered, the suspended rear wheels should rotate freely, and when the lever is raised, they should be blocked.
A properly adjusted parking brake on Renault Duster should hold the car on a slope up to 23% inclusive.
