Note:
If you do not use the parking brake, dirt and moisture can accumulate in the sheaths of the cables. The cables rust, stop moving in the shells and break. Therefore, we recommend using the parking brake in all cases when it is necessary, while not forgetting to adjust its drive from time to time.
The parking brake lever travel should be 8-10 clicks. If the stroke is different, it will need to be adjusted. Also, the need for adjustment can be determined during the inspection of the brake system, after replacing the cables or pulling them out.
Adjusting the parking brake Nissan X-Trail
1. Park the vehicle on a level, level surface.
2. Use a 21mm Allen wrench or socket to loosen all rear wheel nuts by about half a turn.
3. Raise and support the rear of the vehicle.
4. Finally turn away nuts of fastening, and remove wheels.
5. Release the Nissan X-Trail parking brake lever.
6. On the brake disc, remove the rubber plug.
7. Turn the dial to position the hole opposite the adjuster.
8. Use a flathead screwdriver to turn the adjuster up through the hole in the brake disc. Unclench the pads until the regulator threads are visible in the hole.
9. Turn the knob in the opposite direction. Compress the pads until the brake disc spins freely.
10. Carry out the same actions on the second rear wheel.
11. Go to the car interior.
12. Raise the lever and check the number of clicks. It should be within 7-8.
13. If you need to adjust the parking brake on the Nissan X-Trail, use a flat screwdriver to pry and remove the plug.
14. With a 10 mm socket with an extension , turn the adjusting nut 1-2 turns , thereby changing the working length of the cables. Tighten the nut to increase tension, loosen to loosen.
15. After properly adjusting the Nissan X-Trail parking brake, when the number of clicks is normal, make sure that when the lever is lowered, the wheels can rotate freely and the brake pads do not touch the brake discs. When the lever is raised, both wheels must be blocked.
Note:
If the Nissan X-Trail parking brake cannot be adjusted, check the condition of the drive cables, brake pads and discs.
