Removing the Hyundai Matrix thermostat

1. Drain the coolant so that its level is below the thermostat.

2. Remove the cooling system inlet pipe and gasket.

3. Remove the thermostat.

Checking the thermostat Hyundai Matrix

1. Place the thermostat in hot coolant or water and check that the thermostat valve opening temperature is within specification.

2. Replace if necessary (fig. 2.183).

Valve opening start temperature: 82 °C.

Valve full opening temperature: 95 °C.

Valve travel (when fully open): 8.5 mm.

Installing the Hyundai Matrix thermostat

1. Check that the thermostat valve flange is properly seated in the thermostat housing. If the thermostat is not installed correctly, the bottom of the thermostat will touch the fin inside the inlet pipe, causing the thermostat to malfunction.

2. Install the outlet pipe with a new gasket.

3. Fill the system with fresh coolant.
