Note:
The brake drum is removed when the working surface is damaged or worn (the maximum allowable drum diameter is 204.45 mm), as well as to monitor the condition of the brake mechanisms, replace brake shoes and working cylinders.
Brake drums on Nissan Note are replaced in pairs (left and right at the same time).
The procedure for removing and installing the rear brake drum Nissan Note
1. Engage 1st gear and place chocks under the front wheels.
2. Install the rear of the car on the side of the drum being removed on a support. Remove the rear wheel.
3. Pry with a screwdriver and press out the protective cap from the hub.
4. Remove the protective cap.
5. Make sure that the parking brake lever is pushed all the way down (vehicle disengaged).
6. Using a 30 mm head, unscrew and remove the rear hub nut.
7. Grasp the drum with both hands, and, loosening, pull it towards you. Remove the Nissan Note brake drum along with the bearing from the hub trunnion.
Note:
The brake drum is made as one piece with the rear hub.
8. Measure the diameter of the working surface of the drum with a caliper.
9. If the diameter exceeds the maximum allowable ( 204.45 mm ), replace the Nissan Note brake drum with a new one.
10. Check up ease of rotation and lack of backlashes of the bearing of a nave. Replace bearing if necessary.
Note:
Do not press the bearing out of the brake drum unless absolutely necessary. The removed bearing cannot be reused.
11. When installing the removed drum, file the shoulder on the working surface of the drum, formed as a result of wear, with a file.
12. Reset the gap adjuster.
13. Reduce the brake pads with two mounting blades.
14. Install the Nissan Note rear brake drum in the reverse order of removal. Finally tighten the hub nut to 180 mm (18.0 kgf•m).
Note:
Do not reuse a removed hub nut.
15. Press the brake pedal 10-15 times and adjust the gap between the brake shoes and the drum. Each time you press it, you should hear the knob click. As soon as the clicks stop, this means that the gap is set.
16. Press the protective cap into the hub.
17. Reinstall the rear wheel and trim cap.
18. Check the ease of rotation of the wheel (light touching of the drum on the pads is allowed).
19. Similarly, remove and check the Nissan Note brake drum on the other side of the car.
