The transmission of an all-wheel drive car Renault Duster includes a rear gearbox, which houses the main gear with a differential and an electromagnetic clutch. The main gear is hypoid.
The main drive gear of the car is made together with a shaft, the splined end of which is combined with the clutch hub of the electromagnetic clutch. The pinion shaft is placed on two tapered roller bearings.
The outer rings of the bearings are pressed into the housings of the Renault Duster gearbox housing, and the inner rings are put on the shaft. A spacer sleeve is located between the inner rings; when the bearing nut is tightened, the sleeve is deformed, providing a continuous tightness of the bearings.

The bearing tension is controlled by the torque of the drive gear. The final drive gear is bolted to the differential box flange.
The differential redirects the force to the Renault Duster rear wheel drives and allows the drives to rotate at different angular speeds. The differential box rotates on two tapered roller bearings.
In the differential box there are two side gears and two satellites that are in continuous engagement. Satellites rotate around an axis fixed in the differential box.
The base of the electromagnetic clutch for connecting the all-wheel drive is bolted to the crankcase of the Renault Duster main gear. The frictional electromagnetic clutch plays the role of an interaxle differential - it redistributes the force between the axles depending on the road conditions.
The electromagnetic clutch connects the Renault Duster rear-wheel drive on command from the all-wheel drive control unit. The leading part of the clutch is combined with the rear propeller shaft, and the driven part is connected with the main gear drive shaft. In the driven part there is a cam mechanism that changes the clamping force.
The current supplied to the clutch solenoid causes the rear axle to engage. The magnitude of the transmitted force is regulated by the adhesion force of the friction discs in the clutch. At maximum current strength, the clutch is completely blocked.
The Renault Duster gearbox is fixed on three supports to the rear suspension subframe. The bracket with front supports is attached to the rear gearbox housing with two bolts and nuts.
The stud of the gearbox cover is inserted into the hole in the rear support and connected with a nut. The rear gearbox support is pressed into the rear suspension subframe.
To equalize the pressures outside and inside the rear gearbox and the Renault Duster electromagnetic clutch, two breathers are used. The breather is a pipeline, one end of which is put on a tube pressed into the crankcase.
The opposite end of the pipeline (with a plastic tip) of the breather is fixed in a plastic holder on the side member of the car body. During maintenance, to clean the breather, remove the breather tip from the mount and rotate it on the hose.
