1.  Warm up the engine to a temperature of at least 80 ° C and drive a car for several kilometers. This will contribute to a more active draining of the old fluid from the automatic transmission.

Go down under the car and inspect its bottom.

 With a 13 mm head, unscrew 7 bolts and remove the protection.

This will open access to the gearbox.

 Clean the gearbox drain plug with a metal brush and rags.


Place a prepared empty container with a capacity of at least 8 liters under the gearbox drain hole.

Remove the drain plug using a 19 mm socket or wrench. 

Drain the oil completely and put the container aside.

Clean the thread of the plug from dirt.

Replace its retaining o-ring.


Clean the threads of the plug and replace its copper ring.

When the fluid stops flowing out, tighten the drain plug tightly. Drain plug tightening torque - 


Go to the underhood space. Next, you will need to fill in new fluid.

Insert a funnel into its hole. 


Fill with fresh fluid up to the maximum level. 

Note:

Add transmission fluid slowly:  if too little or too much oil is added, this will adversely affect the performance of the automatic transmission.

29.  Start the engine, and gradually move the selector to different positions.

Using a dipstick, measure the oil level in the Nissan X-Trail automatic transmission. When the engine is warm, it should be between the MIN and MAX marks.



Add oil if necessary.

1.  Take a small blank white sheet of paper, a napkin or a white cloth.

2.  Pull out the oil dipstick and apply a few drops of oil to the paper.

3.Determine the color of the liquid:

  • transparent pink shade - the liquid is in a normal state, and its replacement is not needed;
  • gray color, maybe still transparent or slightly cloudy - soon you will have to change the oil;
  • dark color, opaque, there may be a burning smell - fluid replacement is already necessary.
