Note:
This article describes how to replace Mercedes Vito brake discs. Replacing the front brake discs is described in this article .
1. Brake the vehicle with the parking brake and install wheel chocks (“boots”) under the front wheels.
2. Loosen the wheel nuts, jack up the rear of the vehicle, place the vehicle on jack stands, and remove the wheel.
WARNING:
Loosen and tighten the wheel nuts only with the vehicle on the ground.
3. Remove the caliper and pads without disconnecting the brake hose from the caliper. Removing the caliper and replacing the brake pads Mercedes Vito is described in this article .
Useful advice:
The caliper can be tied to the spring by a wire.
4. With a “19” head, unscrew the two bolts securing the bracket (bracket) to the caliper, and remove the bracket without disconnecting the brake hose from the caliper. The removal procedure is described in this article .
5. Turn the brake disc so as to provide access (with a thin screwdriver) to the parking brake pad adjustment ratchet.
1 - Approximate location of the ratchet.
2 - One of the holes for adjusting the ratchet.
The photo shows the same ratchet
6. Turn the ratchet with a screwdriver, increase the clearance between the parking brake pads and the brake disc from the inside (parking brake drum).
Ratchet rotation process
For clarity, the rotation of the ratchet is shown on the removed brake disc.
Note:
If you cannot determine in which direction the ratchet should be rotated, then determine this empirically: if the ratchet rotates in the wrong direction, then the parking brake pads will block the rotation of the brake disc (parking brake drum). In this case, repeat the operation by turning the ratchet in the opposite direction.
7. With a metal brush, clean the head of the screw securing the disc to the rear wheel hub from dirt and corrosion, unscrew it and remove the brake disc.

Note:
When installing the disc, it is advisable to use a new fixing screw of the brake disc to the hub.
Hub Mercedes Vito
Wear of the old and new brake disc
Note:
Clean all contact surfaces, especially the contact surfaces of the brake disc with the hub flange. Even small foreign particles in contact between the disc and the hub flange can lead to inaccessible runout of the working surface of the disc.
8. Spray the hub contact surfaces and threaded connections with high temperature copper grease.
The photo shows the process of applying lubricant (the photo shows the hub of another car. The processes are identical)
Note:
This is done so that there is no sticking, and souring of parts.
9. Install the Mercedes Vito brake discs and all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
