Note:
Replace the rear brake pads on Nissan Note only as a set (4 pcs., 2 for each side).
The minimum allowable thickness of the friction linings of the rear brake pads is 1.0 mm.
The front and rear pads of the rear brake mechanism are different in design: the length of the friction linings is different, and the front pad does not have a hole for attaching the expanding lever. Also rear brake pads are different as left and right.
To access the brake pads, you will first need to remove the brake drum.
Removing the rear brake drum Nissan Note
1. Loosen the rear wheel bolts.
2. Place wheel chocks under the front wheels.
3. In the passenger compartment, remove the plastic trim under the "handbrake" lever. There is a bolt under the rubber gasket. He regulates the tension.
4. Use a 10 mm socket to loosen the parking brake cable.
5. Raise the rear of the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands. Remove the rear wheel.
6. In the engine compartment, check the brake fluid level in the reservoir of the master brake cylinder. If the level is at the “MAX” mark or approaches it, pump out some of the liquid from the tank (it may splash out when replacing the pads).
7. Pry with a screwdriver and press out the protective cap from the hub.
8. Remove the protective cap.
9. Using a 30 mm socket, unscrew the rear hub nut.
10. Remove the rear hub nut.
11. Grasp the drum with both hands, and, loosening, pull it towards you.
12. Remove the Nissan Note brake drum along with the bearing from the hub trunnion.
Note:
The brake drum is made as one piece with the rear hub.
13. Measure the diameter of the working surface of the drum with a caliper.
14. If the diameter exceeds the maximum allowable (204.45 mm), replace the Nissan Note brake drum with a new one.
15. Check up ease of rotation and lack of backlashes of the bearing of a nave. Replace bearing if necessary.
Note:
Do not press the bearing out of the brake drum unless absolutely necessary. The removed bearing cannot be reused.
Replacing the rear brake pads Nissan Note
1. Grab the pressure spring with pliers or 2 screwdrivers and turn it towards you.
2. Remove the hold down spring and support post.
3. Similarly remove a clamping spring and a basic rack of a back brake pad.
4. Overcoming the resistance of the lower coupling spring, bring the lower edge of the front brake shoe out of the lower stop stop.
5. Remove the bent end of the lower return spring from the groove in the front brake shoe.
6. Remove the spring.
7. Move the rear brake shoe back enough to gain access to the rear parking brake cable attachment to the expansion lever.
8. Remove spacer bar with clearance adjuster.
9. Remove the edge of the rear brake shoe from the groove in the piston of the working cylinder, thereby loosening the tension of the upper return spring.
10. Remove the bent end of the upper return spring from the groove in the rear brake shoe.
11. Remove the upper return spring and both brake shoes.
12. After removing the tip of the cable from the slot of the lever, disconnect the cable from the lever.
13. Replace Nissan Note rear brake pads with new ones.
14. Secure the pistons of the working cylinder in any way possible (for example, tighten with a rubber band or tie with wire), otherwise the pistons may be pushed out of the cylinder by a spacer spring and brake fluid will flow out of the hydraulic system.
15. Clear of pollution and examine details of the brake mechanism. Replace deformed or heavily corroded parts. Strongly stretched, lost elasticity and bent springs replace.
16. Apply refractory brake grease to the friction points of the front and rear brake pads.
17. Lubricate the threads of the spacer bar tip with refractory grease and screw it all the way into the nut, but do not tighten it.
18. Release the pistons of the working cylinder from the fixing device. Squeeze the pistons of the working cylinder with sliding pliers and install the brake pads in the reverse order of removal.
19. When installing the removed drum, file the shoulder on the working surface of the drum, formed as a result of wear, with a file.
20. Install the Nissan Note rear brake drum in the reverse order of removal. Finally tighten the hub nut to 180 mm (18.0 kgf•m).
Note:
Do not reuse a removed hub nut.
21. Press the brake pedal 10-15 times and adjust the gap between the brake shoes and the drum. Each time you press it, you should hear the knob click. As soon as the clicks stop, this means that the gap is set.
22. Press the protective cap into the hub.
23. Reinstall rear wheel and trim cap.
24. Similarly, replace the rear brake pads on the Nissan Note and on the other wheel.
25. After installing the brake shoes, adjust the parking brake system.
