The liquid poured into the power steering hydraulic drive is designed for the entire life of the vehicle. We check the fluid level in the hydraulic booster reservoir at every maintenance, as well as when a fluid leak is detected from the booster hydraulic drive, when steering efficiency decreases or extraneous noise (howling) appears when the steering wheel is turned.
It is important to locate the leak as accurately as possible, as in this case, most likely, a worn or damaged part will need to be replaced.
To determine the place of leakage, we use the following technique:
- with the engine turned off, wipe dry all the elements of the steering;
- we check the fluid level in the hydraulic booster reservoir and, if necessary, bring it to normal;
- start the engine and rotate the steering wheel several times until it stops in the extreme left and extreme right positions;
– we find the exact place of leakage and eliminate the cause.
For topping up, as well as when changing the fluid in the power steering system, it is necessary to use a working fluid recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
The power steering reservoir is located in the engine compartment on the bracket of the upper cross member of the radiator frame.
We check the liquid level in the tank on a horizontal platform with the engine not running, not warmed up.

The MINI and MAXI marks are marked on the tank body, between which the working fluid level should be when the engine is cold.

When the engine is running, the fluid in the power steering system heats up, and the level in the reservoir may be slightly above the MAXI mark. If the level of the working fluid has dropped below the MINI mark, then it is necessary to add fluid.
To do this, unscrew and remove the tank cover.

We take out the mesh filter from the tank.
If the filter is clogged, clean and rinse it. Install the filter in the tank.

Add fluid to the reservoir up to the MAXI mark.
Tightly wrap the lid of the tank.
