NOTE
Operation is shown on a vehicle with a 1.6L Duratec Ti-VCT engine. On a vehicle with a 2.0L Duratec Ti-VCT engine, work is similar.
If engine power drops, increased noise occurs, or howling is heard periodically when the fuel pump is running, then most likely the fuel pump is out of order.
Preliminarily check the pressure in the fuel supply system (see "Checking the fuel pressure in the fuel supply system", p. 132). If the pressure in the system is below 365 kPa (3.65 kgf / cm2) on a car with a 1.6 liter engine and 650 kPa (6.5 kgf / cm2) on a 2.0 liter engine, the fuel pump must be replaced, since its design is difficult to disassemble and pump elements (actual electric pump, filters and fuel pressure regulator) are not supplied as spare parts.
You will need: a hardwood drift, a hammer, a container for draining fuel.

1. Remove the fuel.

NOTE
It is necessary to remove the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump due to the fact that the Ford Focus III does not have a hatch in the base of the body above the fuel module, so access to it is impossible when the tank is installed on the car.

2. Loosen the clamping ring securing the fuel pump module to the fuel tank by turning the ring counterclockwise with gentle hammer blows through a wooden drift ...

3. ... and unscrew the ring from the fuel tank neck.

4. Carefully remove the fuel pump module, turning it so as not to damage or displace the float of the fuel gauge sensor, and drain the fuel from it into a previously prepared container.

5. Remove the O-ring and inspect it. Be sure to replace the ring if it is torn or severely compressed.

6. Install the fuel pump module in the reverse order of removal.
WARNING

The fuel pump module must be installed in a strictly defined position, aligning the marks on the fuel tank (in the photo the mark is highlighted with white paint for clarity) and on the module body (in the photo the mark is highlighted in black for clarity), otherwise it will not be possible to connect fuel lines to the module fittings.
