Note:
This article describes how to repair or replace a clutch sensor on a Hyundai ix35.
What is a clutch sensor for?
The clutch pedal position sensor is one of the elements of the engine management system with an electronic gas pedal. This sensor provides a more flexible engine control scheme. It simplifies the process of starting the movement, eliminates "failures" of revolutions and jerks of the car when shifting gears in the manual gearbox, and also allows you to achieve a reduction in fuel consumption.
By feeding information to the engine controller about the moment the clutch is engaged and disengaged, the clutch pedal position sensor allows it to reduce or increase engine speed at the right time, as well as adjust the ignition timing.
Clutch Position Sensor Faults:
A malfunction of the clutch pedal position sensor can be indicated by the "peck" of the car when shifting gears or a sharp increase or decrease in engine speed when the clutch is disengaged. Also, if a clutch pedal position sensor malfunction occurs, the error "Clutch pedal sensor error" is recorded in the engine controller, and the " Check Engine " light in the instrument cluster turns on. In addition, the cruise control may not turn on, the speed of the cruise control may not be fixed, the indicator "disabled downhill assistance system" will light up.
The location of the clutch release sensor (for clarity, shown on the removed clutch pedal).
1. Disconnect a wire from the minus plug of the storage battery.
2. Press down on the front wiring harness block retainer, disconnect the block from the clutch pedal start position sensor connector.
3. Unscrew the nut of the clutch pedal position sensor with a “14” wrench, and remove the sensor.

Note:
You can buy and install a new sensor, or you can change the spring in the sensor itself, as described below.
4. Using a screwdriver, press out the stops on the sides of the sensor, and using a thin object (in our case, a chisel), disassemble the sensor.
Note:
You can just take and stretch the old spring, but it is better to replace it.
There is a guide rod for the spring in the sensor body, so any spring cannot be inserted there, you need to select the size.

5. A stapler can serve as a donor. Take it apart and remove the spring.
6. Cut the spring to 4.4-5 cm, insert the spring into the sensor and assemble it.
7. Install the clutch sensor on the Hyundai ix35 in the reverse order of removal.
