Note:
This article describes how to change the front brake disc on a Hyundai ix35.
The permissible brake disc thickness for the Hyundai ix35 is:
2WD:
- standard value: 26 mm;
- Minimum value: 24.4 mm.
4WD:
- Standard value: 28mm;
- Minimum value: 26.4 mm.
If the brake disc has cracks, scratches more than 0.4 mm deep, waviness or other damage, it must be replaced.
WARNING:
The front brake discs should be replaced in pairs, and the brake pads should also be replaced as described in this article .
1. Brake the car with a parking brake and install wheel chocks (“boots”) under the rear wheels.
2. Loosen the wheel nuts, raise the front of the vehicle with a jack, secure the vehicle on jack stands, and remove the wheel.
WARNING:
Loosen and tighten the wheel nuts only with the vehicle on the ground.
3. Remove the brake pads as described in this article .
4. Using the “17” wrench, unscrew the two bolts (upper and lower) securing the guide pads to the steering knuckle, and remove the guide pads.
5. With a metal brush, clean the heads of the two screws securing the disc to the front wheel hub from dirt and corrosion, unscrew them, and remove the brake disc.

Note:
If it is not possible to unscrew the disk fasteners with a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew them with an impact screwdriver.
Loosen the fastener with an impact screwdriver.
6. Use a wire brush to remove scale and any other dirt from the wheel hub.
Note:
This is done so that the landing of the new brake disc occurs without the slightest distortion.
7. Spray the hub contact surfaces and threaded connections with high temperature copper grease.
Note:
This is done so that there is no sticking, and souring of parts.
8. Before installing with a metal brush, clean the surfaces of the guide pads.
9. Lubricate the guide pins with high temperature grease as described in this article .
10. Install the brake disc on the Hyundai ix35 in the reverse order of removal.
11. Install the brake pads as described in this article .
