Notes:

To ensure continued engine performance, you need to know how to check the ignition system.

The Peugeot 4007 has a high energy microprocessor ignition system (MPSZ). A voltage of approximately 25,000 V is applied to the spark plugs. Although it is not life-threatening at a low current, a possible electric shock when checking the ignition system can lead to serious consequences. Therefore, if you take hold of the coil with the ignition on, use a thick rubber glove or, in extreme cases, pliers with insulated handles.

1.  Before checking the ignition system, set the gear lever to neutral (automatic transmission selector lever to “P”) and leave the parking brake applied.

2.  With the ignition off, open the hood and unscrew the three bolts securing the cylinder head cover plate with a 10 mm head.

3.  Check up landing of blocks of plaits of wires of coils of ignition.

4.  Then check up fastening of coils of ignition. Tighten the mounting bolts if necessary.

5.  Check up serviceability of coils of ignition (presence of damages, etc.). If necessary, replace the coil(s), having previously reduced the fuel pressure in the fuel system.

6.  If the ignition coil low voltage circuit is OK, check for spark at the spark plugs. Remove the ignition coil.

7.  Insert a spare spark plug into the tip of the ignition coil and press it with a metal part to the "mass" of the car (for example, to the transport eye). Have an assistant turn the engine crankshaft with the starter.

Note:

Reliable contact of the spark plug body with the “ground” is mandatory, since if an additional spark gap appears that is larger than the gap between the spark plug electrodes, the engine control unit or the ignition coil high-voltage circuit may be damaged.

Carry out the indicated check for no more than five seconds so as not to damage the exhaust gas converter if gasoline that has not been burned in the engine cylinders gets into it.

8.  If there is no spark, the Peugeot 4007 ignition coil must be replaced.

Note:

You can first try to install not new ones, but proven ones, from a “working” machine.

9.  If there is a spark, but the engine does not start, replace the spark plugs with new ones.

10.  If after that the Peugeot 4007 engine does not start, check the engine management system.

11.  After all checks have been made, reinstall the engine cylinder head cover plate.
